This domain tests the user’s ability to effectively use a computer operating system to perform everyday tasks such as installing software, managing files, and changing system settings. It also explores the hardware and components of modern computers and devices, including such peripherals as printers, cameras, scanners, and game controllers. Finally, Computing Fundamentals examines processes for maintaining computer equipment, protecting hardware from theft or damage, and solving common hardware problems.

The Key Applications examination covers the most common features of the world’s best spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation applications. This domain also focuses on basic database concepts, informational retrieval, and database inputs and outputs. Further, examinees will learn the most common functions of various office productivity applications in addition to being taught how to properly select and use the correct program or app for the task at hand.

The Living Online exam is designed to help users understand how to effectively use the Internet or work in a networked environment and maximize communication, education, collaboration, and social interactions in a safe and ethical way. The exam also explores a foundational knowledge of how computers are used in everyday personal or professional life, including risks of using hardware and software, and how to use the Internet safely, ethically, and legally at all times.
